Article IV of VII
The Still Voice
How you hear it.
Your highest self is always present. The skill is the relationship: making contact, again and again, until contact becomes trust.
Two things get in the way. We mistake the loudest voice (fear, craving, an old wound) for the highest one. Or we listen forever and never act, so trust never gets a chance to build.
So we learn to tell which voice is speaking, and we test it in small ways first. We sit in stillness regularly. We check decisions in the body before we act on them. We use the cards and the animals as prompts for listening, and we act on quiet guidance in small things and notice what happens.
Over time the difference becomes clear. The highest self tends to be quiet and steady, specific about the next step, and kind even when it asks something hard. It leaves a lasting peace, even after a difficult choice. The loudest voice tends to be urgent, catastrophic about the whole future, and either shaming or flattering. It leaves agitation behind, even when you get your way.
